
The Wayne County Mat Cardinals opened the 2007 -2008 season November 20 at the Mccreary Central
Duals. The team finished with four wins in the dual tournament at Whitley City. The Mat Cards defeated Mccreary
Central, Perry County Central ,Whitley County, and Montgomery County.Travis Sullivan broke the Kentucky State
Record for Most Career Wins with 246 wins. The Mat Cardinals closed out November 7-0. The team traveled to Stone
Memorial in Crossville, Tn. on Thursday Nov. 29th.Wayne County defeated Stone Memorial.Knoxville West, and Knoxville,Central. The Mat Cardinal opened at home with the Cardinal Duals on Saturday December 1.Wayne County finished
5-0 on the day with wins over Anderson Co., Ryle, John Hardin, Lafayette, and Whitley County. Wayne County traveled
to Knoxville on Saturday December 8 for the Farragut Duals.The Mat Cardinals defeated William Blount, Sequayah, Farragut,
North Henderson NC,and Robbinsville NC to finish 5-0 and win the dual tournament. The Mat Cardinals won the Hartselle
Duals in Hartselle AL. on December 15. The team finished 6-0 on the trip with wins over Sparkman, Athens, Hartselle, and Buckhorn. The Mat Cardinals traveled to Piegon Forge Tn. on December 21-22 for the Smokey Mountain Duals. The team finished
9-1 in the two day dual tournament tied with Murrary County Ga. and Lafayette Ga.with 9-1 records. Wayne County lost
to Murrary County GA. The team posted wins over Halls, Knoxviile West, Seiver Co.,Chatt. Notre Dame,Lafayette Ga.,Nashville
Harpeth,Gibbs,Bearden,and Piegon Forge. Travis Sullivan won the Most Outstanding Wrester Award in the lower wt. class division. Wayne County hosted the Border War Duals on Saturday December 29.The Mat Cardinals finished 5-0 on the day with wins
over Letcher County Central, Whitley County, Campbell County and Cumberland County TN. The Mat Cardinals hosted
theie annual Cardinal Classic on Saturday January 5. Wayne County won the team championship defeating McMinn County Central,
Dunbar, Cookeville Tn., and Perry County Central. The Mat Cardinals won the Region 8 Dual tournament on Saturday
January 12 at Letcher County Central. Wayne County defeated Lawrence County, Ashland, Mccreary Central,Perry County Central,and
Johnson Central. The team will now advance to the State Duals in Lexington on Saturday January 26. Wayne County
finished 3rd at the State Duals on Saturday January 26 at Lexington Henry Clay High School. The Mat Cardinals defeated North
Oldham, Ryle, and Meade County in pool action. Wayne County lost to Trinity in the semt finals and defeated Campbell
County for 3rd. Top five teams were Trinity, Union Co., Wayne Co., Campbell Co., and Ryle. Wayne County won their
fourth consecutive regional championship on Saturday February 9 at Johnson Central High School. The Mat Cardinals set a regional
record for points scored 254.5, and qualified thirteen wrestlers for the state tournament. The team had five regional champions
103 lb.Luke Troxell, 112 lb.Travis Sullivan, 119 lb.Bryan Daniels,125 lb. Cody Vinsant, and 285 lb. Brandon Bell.
Other medal winners were 130 lb. Aaron Dodd 2nd, 140 lb. Korey Smith 3rd, 145 lb. Kacy Kennedy 2nd, 152 LB. Matthew Sullivan
4th, 160 lb. Coty Sloan 4th, 171 lb. Billy Floyd 2nd, 189 lb. Julian Domineugz 2nd, and 215 lb. Tyler Pace 3rd place
Wayne County finished fifth in the state tournament and small school state runnerup. The Mat Cardinals had seven medal
winners overall. The winners were 103 lb. Luke Troxell 5th, 112 lb. Travis Sullivan 2nd,, 119 lb. Bryan Daniels 5th, 125 lb.
Cody Vinsant 3rd, 189 lb. Julian Domineugz 7th , 215 lb.Tyler Pace 4th, 285 lb.Brandon Bell 5th place. 215 lb.Tyler
Pace recieved the quickest pin award 14 seconds for the state tournament. 112 lb.Travis Sullivan recieved the Kentucky Army
National Guard Warrior Leadership Award for the tournament. Sullivan allso finished his High School Carrer with 235 wins -1
loss. He holds two National records. Most Carrer wins 304,Fastest fall at 103 lbs. 3.2 seconds.He tied for second
place nationally most falls in a carrer with 188 falls and is second in the nation for most consecutive wins 235.
